To Merv and the staff of Red Ochre Inn;
Thanks for the thoughtful weekend we spent with you. It made our trip to Buchans to say the final good-bye to my dad possible. Your hospitality is appricated. The food was great. The wheelchair accessable room was by far the nicest and most comfortable room we have ever stayed in. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you. I wish great things for your inn and safe journeys to all who enter

The vastness of Red Indian Lake was indicated by the size of the fish we were to experience. The combination of sun, scenery and company created a stellar moment seldom matched and never to be out done.
Thanks guys

Thanks so much to all who contributed to our wonderful visit to “BEAUTIFUL BUCHANEER COUNTRY. As repeat visitors, we knew the Snowy beauty of the area and were so lucky to come back to see the area come alive. The Company only added to the time and catching the biggest fish of the group (3.8lbs) was icing on the cake.
Thanks and we’ll be back

Hi Merv,
How is the snow? Are the machines still humming?
Thank you again for 5 wonderful days in Buchans. We still rave with bright eyes about our stay, especially when we remember the drive over the Buchans Plateau with the snow blowing horizontal and with the blue sky above and just only the shape of the driver in front of you ¡K this place on earth is a gift! The guide showed us so many beautiful places we will never forget. The half frozen river, the frozen waterfall, climbing up mountains, just directly into the blue sky ¡V amazing. Watching caribous and mooses ¡V everything that makes hearts beat faster ƒº
We would like to visit Buchans in summertime as well. Our friends from Germany will visit us from June 11th until June 20th. Is it possible to stay with you during this time for 3 days for fishing and enjoying the nature? That means 2 couple for 3 overnight stays. We are all on vacancy so it must not necessarily be on a weekend.
Hope to see you in June ļ
Kind regards
Karen and Manfred

Just droppin a thank you note regarding our trip several weeks ago. Snow conditions were excellent and the trip was well worth it. only regret was having other committments for the weekend otherwise we would have stayed an extra day. The meals and the packed lunch was excellent as always like when weve stayed there for work during summer months. I think big Dave really enjoyed the trip seeing he has mentioned coming back for a few days in march when i take vacation which will place me back in newfoundland for 3 weeks. thanks Corey Adams

A very sincere thank you for the excellent time accorded the class of '58. Your hospitality was first class in true Buchaneer style. We felt very much at home and are so appreciative of everything that was done to make our stay memorable. All the staff went out of their way for us. The food was absolutely great. Needless to say we will never forget our trip to Lloy's River.....and I suspect you won't either! Let us know when another group can outdo us with their singing and we'll return! Wishing you continued success at Red Ochre. |

Hi Merv and all our friends at The Red Ochre Inn,
Thank You for the extraordinary visit to glorious ‘Buchaneer Country’. My partners and I were treated to the best in true Newfoundland Hospitality and our Snowmobile Tour was out of this world. Tyrone; our snow tour guide, was a pleasure to be with and his knowledge and expertise in the mountains was professional in every way.
We have toured most all of the Island on snowmobile and ATV and our visits to Buchans and the Red Ochre Inn are without exception the most memorable; not only for the great hospitality at The Red Ochre but also because the this fabulous inn is located in some of the most beautiful country in all of Canada.
I am already planning our ATV and snow tours in ‘Buchaneer Country’ for next season.
We will be back.

The weekend of March 17,18 2006 was some of the best riding we have had on the Plateau. Being able to ride in any direction on the plateau over the fresh snow was very exciting. The days were large, and that traditional fry up over the open fire makes every trip special. Great Friends, Great Food, Great Snow Conditions, isn't that what snowmobiling is all about. All our group enjoyed this weekend to the fullest
Thanks Again
Hope to be back in a few weeks

Merv, Bernie and I stayed with you 2 - 4 July, may I take this opportunity to pass on our utmost appreciation for the outstanding hospitality we enjoyed from you and your entire staff. Please thank Scott for the excellent history lesson he gave on Buchans the night we arrived. His insight and knowledge of the area was impressive and most enlightening. Scott also provided detailed directions to local areas we wanted to see and he was correct, its some of the most beautiful country anywhere on the globe. The meals provided were blue ribbon, first rate,
top notch, number one, and I could go on. Suffice it to say we were suitably impressed. You have a pair of gems in Ada and Mary. I don't recall being made to feel more at home any were in the world than in their care. Their genuine attention to our needs was greatly appreciated. Having met those two deepens my own pride at being a Newfoundlander (all be it living away).
Thanks girls, you are fine ambassadors for the hostility profession and for Newfoundland women. I am truly embarrassed however l can not recall the name of the fine gentlemen from Toronto who served breakfast each day. Sir, our thanks for
a great start to the day with fresh coffee and hot tea. I wish you every success in your future life in Buchans. To all of you, Bernie and I must now convince our wives that we have to do this again, hopefully a winter Snow Tour. Hope to see you all again, and again many thanks.

Good Morning,
On Mar l7-05 myself and 9 other people skidooed to Buchans from Deer Lake and even though the trail that day was not what we expected our stay at your Inn was the very best we have ever experienced. From the pleasant personality of Mary on the front desk right through to young Michael it was a very pleasant stay. Our meal of Steak that night was the best we have ever eaten and your desserts to die for...We slept like logs in your comfortable beds and met some very nice guests that stayed there that night too. Our trip back to Deer Lake was a normal skidoo day with no problems at all and we could see all the terrain for miles.
See you next year if all goes well. Thank you for your hospitality.
